About Public Media Review

Public Media is an independent digital magazine covering Innovation, Journalism, Local, Media and Business. Newsrooms are institutions with balance sheets, and this publication treats them that way. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.

Output is analysis and explainer, not rewritten announcements. A piece will set a revenue model against actual retention figures, or follow a grant from award letter to the beats it eventually paid for. Sums appear in full wherever a funder or a filing discloses them.

What We Cover

Media examines ownership, funding structures and the policy governing them.

Innovation assesses what news organizations are building and buying — newsletters, audio, vertical video, membership platforms, automation — reporting adoption, staffing cost and the experiments quietly retired.

Journalism concerns craft and standards: developing a beat, source protection, document verification, records requests, corrections practice, and the ethical decisions taken close to deadline, with examples from published work and the reasoning made explicit.

Local tracks journalism at city and county level — closures and launches, news deserts, and the research linking lost coverage to lower turnout and higher municipal borrowing costs.

Media News logs launches, closures, layoff rounds, acquisitions, grant awards and masthead changes with dates, staffing numbers and dollar amounts when public, while Business News follows advertising demand, platform payments, subscription pricing and consolidation, connecting each move to the revenue lines newsrooms depend on.

Standards

Launch coverage that repeats a founder's projection gets refused. So does nostalgia; the argument here concerns what sustains reporting now, not what once did. Anonymous complaint about a rival newsroom is not reporting.
